Hal Smith is a seasoned entrepreneur and the driving force behind Halco Home Solutions, which he founded in 1984. With over four decades of leadership, he has grown Halco into a multi-million-dollar enterprise with four locations across Upstate New York.

Hal’s vision has positioned Halco at the forefront of home performance and electrification. The company is one of the few in New York State capable of handling the entire electrification process—from insulation and air sealing to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and renewable energy integration. This comprehensive expertise ensures homes are heat pump–ready while delivering sustainable, high-efficiency solutions for both residential and commercial clients.

Beyond his business, Hal plays a significant role in advancing the industry. He is president of the Building Performance Contractors Association of NYS, where he leads the mentorship program, and he serves on the national Board of Directors for the Building Performance Association, contributing to its Policy and Nominations Committees.

Hal’s credentials include multiple BPI certifications, NATE Heating, IGSHPA, and licenses as an electrician, master plumber, and HVAC contractor. Under his stewardship, Halco also offers four NYSDOL-approved apprenticeships. His broad expertise and commitment to quality, service, and sustainability continue to shape Halco’s success and reputation.
