Alexander Rees is the Residential HVAC and Water Heating Lead for the Building Technologies Office (BTO). His work includes a wide range of projects spanning demonstration, field validation, and market transformation of the HVAC and water heating sector to increase energy efficiency and save money in all homes (especially through the increased adoption of heat pumps). These projects are done in concert with national labs, regional energy-efficiency offices, utilities, and many other stakeholders.
Before taking on this role, Alex was an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education fellow in BTO. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in sustainability from the University of Michigan, where he did research with the Global CO2 Initiative on carbon utilization policy, both locally in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and internationally.
