Kris Schoenow is a committed leader in the effort to reduce poverty and strengthen communities across Michigan. As Executive Director of the Bureau of Community Action and Economic Opportunity (BCAEO) at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, she oversees the administration of critical federal and state programs, including the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), Low-Income Home Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP), and the Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP). She also operates MiTEC, a technical weatherization training center that ensures high-quality work and program compliance statewide.
Kris is a Certified Community Action Professional (CCAP) and serves as the elected Co-Chair of the National DATA Taskforce. Her leadership has earned national recognition, including the 2019 James Gardner Weatherization Award for her impact at the national, state, and local levels. She is also a recipient of the Governor’s Good Governance Leadership Award and the Governor’s Good Governance Teamwork Award for her contributions in Michigan’s community water crisis.
She is deeply committed to strengthening the Network by promoting best practices, ensuring access to reliable data, and fostering resilient, thriving communities throughout Michigan.
